
In October, Attorney John D. Dumbaugh, board-certified by the Florida Bar for 29 consecutive years in the field of real estate law, marked his 45th anniversary of Florida Bar membership and as part of the law firm of Syprett Meshad. A celebration was held at the Dumbaugh residence on Friday, Oct. 25, attended by many clients, law partners, friends, and colleagues. Attorney Dumbaugh joined Syprett Meshad in 1974 and was named partner in 1984.

Attorney Dumbaugh’s practice is focused on real estate development, international real estate investment, title insurance, lending practice, and estate planning and estate administration. He is an approved closing agent for the area’s institutional lenders, Old Republic National Title Insurance Company, Chicago Title Insurance Company, and Attorneys’ Title Fund Services. As well, he serves on the circuit advisory team of Attorneys’ Title Fund Services for the 12th Judicial Circuit. He is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, and Florida State Courts.
A Sarasotan since 1965, Attorney Dumbaugh was inducted into the Riverview High School Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame in 2017. In 2014, he was recognized with the Legacy Award by Habitat for Humanity Sarasota, in honor of his 20-plus years of service to the organization, including serving on its board of directors. In 2000, Attorney Dumbaugh received the President’s Pro Bono Service Award from The Florida Bar, in recognition of his pro bono service to the community. He has previously served on the boards of the Sarasota Mental Health Association, Sarasota United Cerebral Palsy, Siesta Key Actor’s Theater, the Key Chorale, and the Sarasota Power and Sail Squadron, through which he, as an avid sailor, achieved “Junior Navigator” status.
Fluent in German, Attorney Dumbaugh has served as a referral attorney to the German Consulates in Miami, Florida, and Atlanta, Georgia. He was certified as proficient in German legal language through the “German for Law Professionals” program at the Goethe Institute, Bonn, Germany in 2000.
Attorney Dumbaugh earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Florida in 1974. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, in Political Science and Economics, with a minor degree in German, from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971. A portion of his undergraduate study was at the Universität Basel, Switzerland. He is a member of the legal honorary fraternity, Phi Alpha Delta.
