Syprett Meshad announces the retirement of founding partner Michael L. Resnick, who concluded his family law practice at the end of 2025. His retirement brings to a close an extraordinary 52-year career spent guiding thousands of individuals, couples, and families with skillful counsel, thoughtful planning, and steadfast representation. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Resnick had served as President of the firm for 20 years, leading its legal team through decades of significant local and regional growth.
Born in Monticello, New York, Mr. Resnick graduated from the New York Military Academy with the rank of Platoon Sergeant. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Windham College and, in 1970, received his Juris Doctor from the New England School of Law.
In 1973, he joined Sarasota attorneys Jim Syprett and John Meshad as a founding partner of what would become Syprett Meshad. Together, they built a firm that has grown into one of the region’s most respected and enduring legal institutions, serving multiple generations of Sarasota-area families and businesses.
A longtime member of the Sarasota County Bar Association and Delta Theta Phi Legal Fraternity, Mr. Resnick also served for many years as a State of Florida Guardian ad Litem, advocating for the best interests of abused, neglected, and abandoned children. He has also been a dedicated supporter of United Cerebral Palsy Sarasota-Manatee.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Resnick earned the AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell®—the highest possible peer-review designation—for many consecutive years. He was repeatedly named to the Florida Super Lawyers list in the area of Family Law. In 2023, The Florida Bar honored him for 50 years of continuous membership, which he maintained since 1973.
Syprett Meshad proudly salutes and thanks Attorney Resnick for more than five decades of excellence in legal advocacy, leadership, and community service. His presence within the firm will be deeply missed, but his legacy remains a lasting influence and guiding light for generations to come.
