Syprett Meshad attorney recognized for pro bono work by Legal Aid of Manasota

Nancy Cason
June 29, 2015 / Sarasota, Fla. — Real estate attorney Nancy E. Cason, managing partner of Syprett, Meshad, Resnick, Lieb, Dumbaugh, Jones, Krotec & Westheimer, P.A., was recognized on June 16 by Legal Aid of Manasota for her pro bono legal service to the community. Cason, who holds the AV Preeminent rating, the highest possible rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings, received Legal Aid of Manasota’s bronze award, which recognizes attorneys who have dedicated between 20 and 49 hours of their time to pro bono work during a given year. Cason donated more than 40 hours in 2014, both in pro bono representation through Legal Aid, and directly to those in need.
Legal Aid of Manasota bestowed the award, symbolized by a lapel pin, on Cason during a special ceremony recognizing several area attorneys for pro bono work. The event was held at Sarasota’s Judge Lynn N. Silvertooth Judicial Center, and was attended by area judges, attorneys, Legal Aid staff and volunteers. Overall, in 2014, attorneys working with the nonprofit helped thousands of people, donating more than 6,500 hours in free services, representing a total value of $1.3 million.
“Not everyone in our community can afford to pay for legal assistance in dealing with challenging, complicated processes like divorces, domestic violence, foreclosures, guardianship and other matters,” says Cason. “I believe attorneys have a special obligation to give back, and I feel privileged to partner with Legal Aid of Manasota in helping people navigate thorny legal problems and resolve issues that may be holding them back.”
At Syprett Meshad, Cason’s practice includes real estate contract preparation, commercial and residential closings, short sales, title insurance, loan modifications, foreclosure defense, landlord/tenant litigation and commercial litigation. For the past three consecutive years, Cason has been named a Florida “Rising Star” by the research team at Super Lawyers; less than 2.5 percent of lawyers in Florida are selected for the Rising Stars distinction, which is reserved for those lawyers aged 40 or younger.
In addition to her volunteer work with Legal Aid of Manasota, Cason volunteers with Girls Inc. of Sarasota, and participates in many public service legal projects with the Sarasota County Bar Association. /end
