Elisabeth G. Whitmire is our senior associate and practices in the areas of family, criminal, and appellate law. She is a member of the Florida Bar and is licensed to practice before all Florida State Courts as well as the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida.
Ms.Whitmire earned her Juris Doctorate, with honors, in 2013 from Florida Coastal School of Law with a Certification in Advance Legal Research, Writing and Drafting. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Florida Southern College obtained in 2005.
While attending Florida Coastal, Ms. Whitmire participated as a brief writer and oral advocate in Florida Coastal’s nationally acclaimed moot court team earning a Best Appellate Brief Award. She also participated as an advocate for Florida Coastal’s mock trial team and went on to coach future teams. Ms. Whitmire earned multiple book awards, was a teaching assistant for Legal Research and Writing, and earned the Pro Bono Honors Award for her dedication to pro bono legal work at the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA) and Florida Coastal’s Legal Clinic for family and appellate law. She also gained valuable experience as a certified legal intern for the United Stated Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida as well as clerking for Judge James R. Wolf at the First District Court of Appeals.
Born in Denton, Texas, Ms. Whitmire was raised in Sarasota, Florida from the age of 6 months old. Ms. Whitmire started her career at SyprettMeshad back in 2008 as a Legal Assistant for Michael Resnick and, after attending law school, Ms. Whitmire returned to her Sarasota roots and rejoined our legal family. Prior to rejoining SyprettMeshad, Ms.Whitmire served as an Assistant Public Defenderfor the 10th Judicial Circuit where she defended cases in the felony, misdemeanor, and violation of probation divisions, completing approximately 120 trials. She also wrote appellate briefs for criminal appeals throughout the Second District Court of Appeals.
She is a member of the Sarasota County Young Lawyers Division, the Sarasota County Bar, the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar, and the International Legal Honors Society of Phi Delta Phi. She is deeply committed to her community and is an active volunteer with many non-profit organizations including, but not limited to, Equality Florida, #Hashtag Lunchbag, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
