Attorney Ben Sorrell focuses his practice on commercial and residential real estate matters, including purchases, sales, and leasing. Prior to joining Syprett Meshad, Mr. Sorrell gained invaluable experience as an attorney with a statewide law firm where he represented regional and local developers and real estate investors in high value, sophisticated commercial real estate matters, and provided expertise and legal counsel for buyers, sellers, owners, landlords and tenants. He also previously ran his own local law practice.

Combining big-firm expertise with smaller-firm accessibility, and having represented, closed, and/or negotiated over $300 million dollars in transactions, Mr. Sorrell brings a wealth of experience to the table in handling complex real estate matters, including the drafting and negotiation of purchase and sale agreements for residential property, retail shopping centers, hotels, office buildings, and other real estate documents such as easement agreements and financing documents. Mr. Sorrell is also well versed in preparing and negotiating office, retail shopping centers, industrial/warehouse, and residential leases.

Mr. Sorrell has been named a “Rising Star” from 2021-2025 and is listed as a top-rated Florida lawyer by Super Lawyers (Thomson Reuters). SRQ Magazine has named him an Elite Top Attorney for five consecutive years (2020-2025). He is licensed to practice before all Florida state courts as well as the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida, and is a member of The Florida Bar and the Sarasota County Bar Association.

A passionate educator, Mr. Sorrell previously taught high school Social Studies in Pinellas County and is a former Adjunct Professor at Stetson University College of Law. Currently, Mr. Sorrell is approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission to provide Continuing Education to Realtors and brokers. He enjoys volunteering his knowledge and guidance to the Realtor Association of Sarasota and Manatee (RASM), serving as a past member of RASM’s Realtor-Attorney Joint Committee where he participated in panel discussion for RASM’s members as well as contributed educational articles to the organization’s Elevate magazine, reaching over 9,000 members. Mr. Sorrell is also a member of the Commercial Real Estate Alliance within RASM.

Mr. Sorrell was awarded his Juris Doctorate from Stetson University College of Law, earning top grades in Constitutional Law, Real Property Law, and Sports Law.  While at Stetson, Ben was selected to intern with the Honorable Virginia Hernandez-Covington in the Middle District of Florida, and studied with Bruce Jacobs, lead attorney in the instrumental landmark case Gideon v. Wainwright.  He received his undergraduate degree in Secondary Social Science Education, cum laude, from the University of South Florida.

He is a Past Chair of Gulf Coast Legal Services’ Board of Directors, and has provided pro bono legal services to the group’s clients, assisting under-income and elderly citizens throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

In his free time, Ben enjoys spending time and traveling with his wife and three children (Ben and his family have visited almost every habitable continent) and watching baseball, football, and hockey.
