Elisabeth G. Whitmire is a Senior Associate attorney practicing in the areas of family, criminal, and appellate law. She holds an AV Preeminent® rating, the highest rating possible from the peer review process facilitated by the Martindale-Hubbell® Peer Review Ratings™ — a reflection of very high professional ethics and preeminent legal ability. A member of the Florida Bar, Ms. Whitmire is licensed to practice before all Florida State Courts as well as the United States District Court, Middle District of Florida. Ms. Whitmire has also been certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Family Mediator.
Prior to joining Syprett Meshad in 2013, Ms. Whitmire served as an Assistant Public Defender for the 10th Judicial Circuit where she defended cases in the felony, misdemeanor, and violation of probation divisions, completing approximately 120 trials. She also wrote appellate briefs for criminal appeals throughout the Second District Court of Appeals.
While still in law school, she gained valuable experience as a certified legal intern for the United Stated Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, as well as while clerking for Judge James R. Wolf at the First District Court of Appeals. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Whitmire worked at Syprett Meshad as a Legal Assistant to founding partner Michael Resnick.
Ms. Whitmire earned her Juris Doctorate with honors in 2013 from Florida Coastal School of Law with a Certification in Advance Legal Research, Writing and Drafting. During her college career, she was a brief writer and oral advocate in Florida Coastal’s nationally acclaimed moot court team; her contributions helped the team win a Best Appellate Brief Award. She was also an advocate and coach for the school’s mock trial team.
At Florida Coastal, Ms. Whitmire earned multiple book awards, was a teaching assistant for Legal Research and Writing, and earned the Pro Bono Honors Award for her dedication to pro bono legal work at the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA) and Florida Coastal’s Legal Clinic for family and appellate law. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Florida Southern College obtained in 2005.
Ms. Whitmire is a member of the Sarasota County Young Lawyers Division, the Sarasota County Bar, the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar, and the International Legal Honors Society of Phi Delta Phi. She is deeply committed to her community and is an active volunteer with many non-profit organizations including Equality Florida, #HashtagLunchbag, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
